Valentine’s Day celebration, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine, and through other traditions, it has also become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.
Showbiz expert Ambassador Ayo George chose the special day to express his love as he reached out to widows to mark the event.
At the outreach held in Ibadan, he said, “For us at Christiana George Foundation, it was a deliberate decision to choose this date for our outreach, which started 4 years ago. There is this belief out there that the day is meant only for lovers to exchange gifts and indulge in acts of romance, but at the foundation, we believe it’s a day to show love to the less privileged, and as such, we chose widows.
“The society has neglected a lot of these indigent women. This year, we were blessed to have the outreach sponsored by the Adenrele Lekan-Salami Foundation and we were able to reach out to about 300 widows with foodstuff, drinks, utensils, and a token for transportation.”
The outreach under the Christiana George Foundation is one of the programmes of the organisation, which caters to fibroid patients, widows, girl-child, and other under-privileged.
