Raymond who got married to his wife 29 years ago told the court he was fed up with their union which had produced four children.
He, therefore, employed the court to dissolve their marriage so that he could live the remaining years of his life in peace.
“My marriage has brought a dent to my life. While my age mates are daily enjoying the comfort of their homes and the attention of their family members, my own home is in disarray, “Raymond told the court.
“My wife feels I’m too small to talk to her. She simply derives pleasure in disobeying me.
“She fails to carry out my instructions and flouts my orders.
“Our home boils day in day out because of her troublesome nature. She’s either fighting me or shouting on our children. She’s also fond of accusing them falsely.
“My wife shamelessly accused our second child of smoking Indian hemp and this has brought a stigma not only to the child, but my whole family.
“Our children now dread coming home because they have ceased to find a friend in their mother, “the plaintiff added.
“While women of her age are regarded as model in the society, she is the reverse.
“She fights not only her immediate family, but my extended family, our neighbours and even those in the neighbourhood.
“We once lived in a house for just three weeks after which our landlord sent us packing as a result of my wife’s troublesome nature.
“Anytime I realise both of us are the only ones at home, I lock myself up in my room because I don’t trust her and can’t predict her actions.
“She has succeeded in turning me into a hypertensive patient; I now visit the hospital on a regular basis and spend money on drugs.
“My lord, I’ve had enough of my wife’s bestial act; I don’t want her to kill me, please, separate us, “he concluded.
“I don’t agree to my husband’s plea of divorce, Julianah told the court.
“My husband has lied against me and has succeeded in humiliating me before the court.
“He’s also used to humiliating me before our children and his family. He has presented me as a worthless person before them all, “she said.
“All our children love me; the only child I have problem with is our second child who has taken to smoking Indian hemp.
“I kept drumming it in my husband’s ears that our son is moving with bad friends and that he’s smoking India hemp, but he turned deaf ears to me.
“Rather than joining hands in calling our son to order, my husband kept accusing me of lying against him and soiling his name and that of the family as a whole, “the defendant stated.
“I stopped receiving the necessary care and attention from my husband more than a decade ago. He sees and takes me as part of the furniture in the home. I have ceased to mean anything to him, “she concluded.
After listening to both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade observed that the love between the duo haswaned while their marriage had broken down irrevocably.
Giving his judgment, Odunade ruled that their marriage be dissolved.
He ordered the plaintiff to give the defendant N3, 000 to pack her things from his house and also provide her another N12,000 as one year rent for a new accommodation.
