The Senator representing Oyo Central district of Oyo State, Dr Yunus Akintunde, has called for the support of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, for his quest to raise the bar of representation in the district through meaningful legislation and impactful development projects.
Senator Akintunde made this call on Friday during a courtesy visit to Oba Balogun at his palace in the Alarere area of Ibadan. The monarch received Akintunde and his team alongside the Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to revitalising the area and accelerating the uplift of its people and therefore urged the traditional ruler to assist him on the mission with his wisdom and sustained counseling.
Senator Akintunde, who was accompanied on the visit by the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo Central, Mr Oyebamiji Joshua Atiku and other stalwarts of the party, in a tribute, noted the philanthropy of Oba Balogun.
According to him, the monarch’s life has been marked with service to humanity and unbiased dedication to the welfare of the generality of the Nigerian people.Â
He recalled that 24 years ago, “I was one of the people who pasted the posters when our Kabiyesi wanted to become a Senator. I was part of his team.” He also thanked Oba Amidu Ajibade for supporting his bid to go to the National Assembly.Â
Akintunde also noted: “Kabiyesi (the Olubadan) is from Lagelu Local Government. He resides in Egbeda Local Government. Both local governments fall within Oyo Central Senatorial District.Â
“And if you talk of first-class Obas, you mention the Olubadan. May God spare his life. The palaces of the Alaafin of Oyo, the Orilegbon of Ile-Igbon and the Bashorun who represents the Alaafin today also fall within my senatorial district.Â
“The most significant thing is that Kabiyesi was a senator and he served his people effectively. I need his wisdom, tutelage and direction. I need him to correct my errors. I have to be reporting back to him not only as the Olubadan but as someone that has served in that capacity before.Â
“Traditional rulers are the interface between those of us representing the people and the people we represent.”Â
Speaking on behalf of Olubadan, the Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Ajibade, described Akintunde as a kind-hearted individual with vast experience in politics, assuring him of the support of the Olubadan and the Olubadan-in-Council.”
