The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) on Sunday applauded the decision of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review to consider the report of the 2014 National Conference and that of the El-Rufai Committee in fashioning out a new constitution for the country, describing as laudable.
SMBLF gave this commendation in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos and jointly signed by Mr Yinka Odumakin for South- West, Gen C. R.U Ihekire (South- East), Senator Bassey Henshaw (South-South) and Dr isuwa Dogo (Middle- Belt).
The leaders, while welcoming the move by the committee of the Senate, promised their readiness to offer it all necessary cooperation in this regard, promising that the Forum shall take more than a passing interest in the assignment before the committee.
“The attention of Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) has been drawn to the laudable decision of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review to consider the report of the 2014 National Conference and that of the El-Rufai committee in the discharge of the onerous task before them.

“We welcome their decision with a promise of our readiness to offer them all necessary cooperation in this regard,” the leaders said.
SMBLF, while promising to assist the committee in its work, pointed out that Nigeria was currently bleeding and needed to be salvaged from a possible disintegration.
According to the Forum, the bad state of the country was even testified to by the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, who declared after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari recently that the country had reached a “tipping point.”
It said that was the more reason why the Senate Committee on Review of the Constitution had to give the assignment all the seriousness it deserves with the knowledge that it was an opportunity to make history.
“This is why the committee has to give the assignment all the seriousness it deserves knowing full well that it is an opportunity to make history if they found an anchor for a polity in distress,” SMBLF said.
“We shall take more than a passing interest in the work of the committee as we pray for God to guide them alright,” it vowed.
