President of the association, Mr Nelson Nwaonicha, who gave the commendation via a press statement, said the new law has given life to the over 400,000 students of the university.
“NOUN has provided highly competent graduates ahead of other institutions in Africa, because of its unique mode of learning that focuses on extensive research and ICT-based system – which is the current global, efficient mode of education,” he said.
Nwaonicha added that NOUN students have won international competitions, and foreign governments have shown interest in Nigeria’s open education research programmes over the years.
“This should show the massive awakening happening in Nigeria in favour of Nigerian youths,” he added.
Nwaonicha thanked the NOUN management for its relentless fight in bringing the new bill into fruition, and urged acting President Yemi Osinbajo to sign it into law.
