A protracted Saturday downpour has brought down a three-storey building under construction in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, leaving scores feared trapped.
But the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the collapse, however, refuted the alleged fatality by some local media.
“It is true there has been a building, a hotel still under construction. We have no record of death because from what we know, for now, it is still under construction.”
Those allegedly trapped in the debris were said to be construction workers who had resumed work at the wee hours at the construction site.

Local reports say rescue efforts operatives of the Abraka Police Division and other sister agencies had been on since the building, famously known as 2016 Hotel, caved in.
As of the time of filing this report Saturday evening, DSP Onovwakpoyeya could not be reached on progress made so far at the scene of the incident.
