Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said his administration is committed to delivering the proposed Lekki International Airport and other iconic infrastructural projects across the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed this commitment over the weekend during a guided tour and official visit to Alaro City and the Universal One Development at Alaro City, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos. He was accompanied by some members of the Lagos State Executive Council and top government officials.
The governor, who spent over two hours inspecting four companies inside Alaro City—including Ariel Foods, BUA, TY Danjuma Logistics Park, and Universal Homes—said that aviation industry regulators would arrive in the state this week for a review and site inspection, which would lead to the commencement of the airport’s construction, aimed at boosting future investments in Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu also disclosed that work would soon commence on the Green Line Rail project, which will run from Marina to Lekki, noting that funding for the project was being finalized.
The governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who initiated the Lekki Free Trade Zone about two decades ago, describing Alaro City as a success story. He urged investors who are still undecided to act quickly and establish their presence.
“We commend Alaro City for the amount of physical infrastructure that has been put in place to encourage businesses and investors to come to the city.
“As a government, we have provided infrastructure to accommodate investments in this corridor. We must give credit to our visionary President, Bola Tinubu, who, as Governor, initiated the Lekki Free Trade Zone about two decades ago. I was privileged to be part of his team at the time, and we have seen successive growth since then.

“Alaro City is a success story. We encourage investors who are still undecided to act now because things are progressing rapidly. We thank all Lagosians for believing in our city and state. The Lekki-Epe Expressway will continue to open up more investment opportunities in this area.
“There are plans for the Green Line Rail, which will eventually extend to this neighborhood. We are witnessing additional life-changing projects beyond those developed in the last 10-15 years. I am extremely excited about what this place will become in the next decade,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Alaro City, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi, emphasized that the Lekki Free Trade Zone corridor is an ideal investment location, given the Lagos State Government’s extensive infrastructural development in the area.
Similarly, the Managing Director of Alaro City, Mr. Yomi Ademola, praised the collaboration between the state government and private organizations, which has attracted significant investments to Lagos and created more job opportunities for residents.
Ademola commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for delivering key infrastructural projects across Lagos State, particularly in the Lekki axis. He highlighted the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Phase I of the six-lane rigid pavement Lekki-Epe Expressway, the proposed Lekki International Airport, and the Green Line Rail as transformational projects shaping the region’s future.
