Lagos Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that drive digital transformation and create opportunities for its people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, expressed his administration’s commitment, while speaking at the Huawei Cloud Summit Nigeria 2024, themed: “Leap Now with Cloud,” which took place at Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, saying by harnessing power of technology, a more inclusive and prosperous future for all Nigerians can be built.
“Let me reaffirm Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that drive digital transformation and create opportunities for our people. Together, we can harness the power of technology to build a more inclusive and prosperous future for all Nigerians,” he said.
The governor cited that the state had begun to witness the transformative impact of technology, ranging from small startups to established enterprises, affirming that digital solutions were accelerating economic growth, creating jobs, and “reshaping how we work and connect.”
According to him, achieving the promise of a digital future requires deliberate investments in robust infrastructure, the cultivation of digital talent, and active collaborations between the public and private sectors, saying that the theme of gathering was a call to action for businesses, organizations, and individuals to adopt cloud solutions as a pathway to innovation, efficiency, and growth.
This was as he noted that Cloud technology reduces the costs of maintaining physical IT infrastructure while providing a competitive edge in an increasingly digital world, saying that the world was at a pivotal moment in history where digital transformation was no longer optional but essential for sustainable development.

Technologies like cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and big data hold the key to unlocking opportunities in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and commerce,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, therefore, urged all participants to embrace bold ideas, share innovative solutions, and forge partnerships that would shape the future of technology in Africa, positing that the event was not merely a conference, but rather a catalyst for transformation and a beacon of progress for the continent.
He commended the Huawei group for its unwavering commitment to driving technological advancement and empowering businesses, adding that group aligned seamlessly with the nation’s vision of a thriving digital economy.
,lChief Executive Officer (CEO) of Huawei Nigeria, Chris Lu, in his welcome address, said that the organization was committed to accelerating the prosperity of Nigerians’ digital economy, adding that the company and the government were contributing positively to the development and greatness of Nigeria and Lagos.
According to him, Huawei is building a local cloud in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos, expressing the company’s belief in the potential of the country and particularly in Lagos, even as he reiterated the security and safety of customers’ data.
“Together, we are all contributing positively to the development and greatness of Nigeria and Lagos. Huawei is very committed to accelerating the prosperity of Nigerians’ digital economy,” he said.
Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, in his goodwill message, stated that Nigeria holds immense potential in cloud computing, adding that it was not merely a technological advancement but a catalyst for change that can empower businesses, enhance government services, and improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
Kashifu noted that Nigeria had a huge potential for cloud infrastructures with a large local market of young innovators, stressing that it was important for the country to align digital strategies with local interests by building robust infrastructures that reflect Nigeria’s unique being, and aspirations, among others.
