Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, President, African Development Bank Group (AfDB), top bank CEOs, leading investment professionals, policymakers, and industry experts across Africa are billed to grace the CFA Institute 2023 Africa Investment Conference.
The conference is scheduled for 29th – 30th November 2023 at the Eko Hotel convention centre, Lagos Nigeria. The two-day conference is being organized by CFA Society Nigeria in partnership with CFA Institute, CFA Societies East Africa, Ghana, South Africa, and Mauritius.
CFA Institute is a global, not-for-profit association of investment professionals with a mission to lead the investment profession globally by promoting the highest ethical standards, education, and professional excellence for society’s ultimate benefit.
Speaking at the conference, Ibukun Oyedeji, CFA, President, CFA Society Nigeria, said Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina is expected to deliver a keynote address on the conference theme ‘The Emergence of Africa: A Rethink or A Strategising?’, Marg Franklin, CFA, President & CEO, CFA Institute, will give an opening remark, while Host Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is also expected to give a remark.
She added that speakers at the conference will examine the continent’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities through a lens of innovation and strategic rethinking. She stated that others expected to attend the conference are entrepreneurs and startups, government officials, Fintech innovators, academics and researchers, students pursuing careers in finance and other finance enthusiasts.
According to the programme of events, there will be four-panel sessions for day one and two sessions for day two. Speakers at the first session which has as its topic, “Medium Term Outlook for Key African Economies” are Dr. Ayo Teriba, Chief Executive Officer, Economic Associates, Bismark Rewane, Managing Director/CEO, Financial Derivatives Company LTD). This session would be moderated by Francis Nasyomba, CFA, President, CFA Society East Africa.
According to the organisers, a Panel session featuring Benson Adenuga, Coverage Director and Head of Nigeria Office, British International Investment; Sameh Shenouda, Executive Director & Chief Investment Officer, Africa Finance Corporation; Paul-Harry Aithnard, Regional Executive UEMOA; Managing Director, Ecobank Cote d’Ivoire; Okechukwu Enelamah, CFA, former Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment and Chairman/Co-Founder, African Capital Alliance will address the topic “The Search For Alpha: Where & How To Invest In Africa” It would be moderated by Dave Uduanu, CFA, Chief Executive Officer, Access Pensions Limited.
Margaret Franklin, CFA, President & CEO, CFA Institute, Banji Fehintola, CFA, Senior Director, Head of Treasury and Financial Institutions, Africa Finance Corporation will have a Fireside Chat on “Professional Learning & Capacity Building for African Professionals” and Jamil Ampomah, Director for Africa, ACCA will moderate the session.
The second day of the conference will be devoted to mentorship and career development. The first session will focus on” Journey to the Top: A Discourse with CEOs”. The Bank CEOs slated for this mentorship program are Roosevelt Ogbonna, CFA, Managing Director/CEO, Access Bank; Yemisi Edun, CFA, Managing Director, First City Monument Bank; Ebenezer Onyeagwu, Managing Director/CEO, Zenith Bank; Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, FCA, Chief Executive Officer, First Bank of Nigeria Limited; Jeremy Awori (Group Chief Executive Officer, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI); Anthony Oputa, Regional Managing Partner, West Africa, Ernst & Young.
