When I was elected chairman in 2014, our 60th anniversary was months ahead but structures were seriously dilapidated and in ruins. It will be a shame to celebrate in such a mess. I with my vice, Mr Pius Aludo approached him in his office. Unknown to him but the mention of Loyola College Old Boys to his private secretary ignited the whole mission. To our surprise with his status and compared to our past experiences he warmly welcomed us. He passionately accepted to spearhead the call to renovate the school. He provided us an office in his office with all assistance needed. He contacted friends, mates and colleagues for an interactive lunch and donation for the renovations. The event was. Chaired and supported by another great alumnus and a pride to us, Dr Bgk Ajayi (Ojulowo) the immediate past national worldwide president. The fund realized that day was judiciously expended to renovate the main building, housing the biology, chemistry and physics laboratories, the library and the teachers room. This attracted other sets, groups and branches to do same. To god be the glory today almost 80% of structures are now renovated. The latest one was first class renovation of 5 class rooms and teachers office by the 1988 set, the library equipped and renovated by 1991 set (Ooni Ogunwisi’s set) the chemistry, physics and biology laboratories was done by 1972 set led by our current national president, Dr Akintunde Akinyemi. The 1998 set which i belong lead by Engr. P. K. Shola pioneered lot of structural face lift making the then national president to pronounce us the ‘golden set’ also to be mentioned are past works done by the sets of Professor Pat Utomi, Apostle Hilford Alile, Engr Biodun Ishola, Ramond Dokpesi, Dele Adigun, Dr Kunle Olajide, Mr Tony Iredia, Mr Olusola Ogundipe Rtd (Controller General Nigerian Prisons), Venerable Wole Ogunsinde, Otunba Muyiwa Musiwe, Engr Busayo Taiwo and many others.
This is what a single move of interest and patriotism can do to influence a vision. We expect such move from you your excellency to sow seeds of development and progress in Ondo state in near future. Ibadan chieftaincy enthronement is uncontroversial, very unique without doubt. Whenever there is demise of a senior holder, all others queuing behind move up and key in to the next position. A common song by the families of elevated chiefs is ‘oye na ko le wa, afi suke’ meaning the chieftaincy title now reside in our family. So we loyolans worldwide happily sing such as this great honour is bestowed on one of us.
We all Loyolans worldwide send our warm and heartily congratulation to you and wish your tenure a very successful one, to be a show piece and example of good governance in our recent time.
Fabiyi Tobi Adegboyega
Chairman Loyola College Old Boys Association Ibadan.
