The Rotary Club of Bauchi Central in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of ATBU, Bauchi has donated textbooks worth thousands of Naira to the pupils and students of Zion Pilgrim Christ School and Samat International Academy all in Yelwa Kagadama, Bauchi.
The textbooks cover three major subjects of English, Mathematics and Basic Sciences for Primary 1-6 and Junior Secondary School 1-3 under the Rotary Literary Project.
Speaking shortly before donating the books, President of Rotary Club of Bauchi Central, Rotarian Pam Dauda said that, “Rotary is donating 1000 textbooks and workbooks to Zion Pilgrims Christ Schools and Samat International Academy, all in Yelwa. We deemed it necessary to come and donate the books freely.
“The aim is to help the schools, pupils and students work better on improving their educational system.”
According to him, it was the first project Rotary club of Bauchi Central was doing on literacy and education to schools and the first project as the President of Rotary Club of Bauchi Central which started in July, 2023.
“This is the Literacy Month of Rotary International. So, today, we are giving these textbooks as the first project in order to impact the lives of these children in the two schools.
“Rotary Club of Bauchi Central drive is for improvement in education, to make sure that the books are used effectively in order to make education easier. These textbooks are very difficult for Schools to get. We were able to get this 1000 and donate to them so that they will have them in their libraries and continue to use them.
“We want them to read more books in order to discover more hidden things. A lot of things are hidden in the books, unless you read the books, you will not know what is hidden inside the book. Looking at the cover of the books does not give you the contents of the book. We have brought the books so that they will read continuously. We have a focal person who will monitor the usage of the books,” he stressed.
The Rotary Club of Bauchi Central President stressed that the Club wants to see how effective they will use the books to encourage it to do more, saying,”If they are doing well, we will look for books to give to them so that we will improve their lives.”
He explained that the 1000 books were distributed to the two schools based on the strength of the students, adding that the two schools were randomly selected for the donation.
He however added that Zion Pilgrims Christ School was selected because it has a number of IDPs children as well as orphans who do not have anyone to take care of them though they need care and attention.
In his remarks, President of Rotaract Club of ATBU, Bauchi, Rotaractor Ibrahim Saleh said that the Club embarked on the project in order to contribute to what the Rotary Club of Bauchi Central is doing to promote effective and efficient learning.
Ibrahim Saleh stressed that textbooks are an essential part of effective and efficient learning, adding that that necessitated Rotary working together with Rotaract to improve literacy level of pupils and students.
He then urged the Schools to make the textbooks readily available to the targeted pupils and students to enhance their learning activities just as he advised the pupils and students to get used to reading books in order to enlarge their scope of learning.
The Principal of Samat International Academy, Ogbonna Franscica, thanked Rotary Club of Bauchi and Rotaract Club of ATBU for the donation which she said will go a long way to complement the efforts of the school.
She expressed confidence that the books will enhance learning and teaching considering the fact that textbooks are very essential to effective learning, assuring that the books will be judiciously used.
Also speaking, Proprietor of Zion Pilgrim Christ Schools, Joel Jijingi, said that his school is very fortunate to have received such donations previously from Rotary Club of Jos years back stressing that history has repeated itself.
He stressed that textbooks are key to success in educational pursuit but are very expensive to buy commending Rotary Club of Bauchi in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of ATBU for the kind gesture which he said will go a long in helping the students to learn effectively and efficiently.
