The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, following a fierce gun battle with security operatives at Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made this known in a statement to the press in Kano.
According to the statement, “The confrontation occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, when police officers responded to a distress call about an ongoing robbery attack.”
The statement by Kiyawa said the robbery gang opened fire upon sighting the responding officers, leading to a tense exchange of gunfire.

However, during the firefight, two police personnel — Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu — sustained injuries. The gang’s leader, Halifa Baba-Beru, was also critically wounded during the shootout.
The police spokesman stated that all injured individuals were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.
While the police officers were treated and discharged, Baba-Beru succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The police command has since launched a full-scale investigation and is intensifying efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the gallantry and swift response of the officers involved in the operation.
CP Bakori further reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity that could aid in apprehending the remaining suspects.
“The success of our operations depends greatly on timely and accurate information from the public,” the CP said, emphasising the need for community support in the ongoing fight against crime.
