Motorists and other road users spent hours waiting for the road to be cleared when villagers of Takandan Giwa village about 35 kilometres away from Bauchi along the ever-busy Bauchi-Jos road on Saturday.
One of the stranded people who was coming from Jos to Bauchi told our correspondent that he just saw vehicles parked and he too joined and when he inquired, he was told that the road ahead was blocked while tyres were burnt on the road.
On further inquiries, he was told that some villagers were protesting for a reason he could not understand as people particularly travellers stopped far away from the scene of the protest.
But a villager told our correspondent that the villagers were protesting the invasion of the village by security agencies to arrest some of the villagers a development they were not happy with.
Another source from the village added that the villagers were forced to protest because security operatives have abandoned them to the mercy of kidnappers who often raid the village taking them away for ransom a development that has become a routine.
He added that they had reported the matter to the authorities concerned but no action has been taken to safeguard them declaring that only recently, some of the villagers who went to the farm were kidnapped while the kidnappers are demanding ransom.
The villager who did not disclose his name simply told our correspondent that the villagers want the authority to come to their aid immediately by deploying personnel to the area for security purposes.
When contacted, Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident assuring that the situation was under control as men of the Toro Area Command and the Division had mobilized to the scene.
