THE Rivers State Government Monday accused the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC and the Federal Government of sabotaging the state’s security infrastructure for the purpose of securing a cheap advantage in the 2019 election.
The government alleged that the Federal Government had concluded plans to grant amnesty to the 32 killer cultist members of the slain notorious kidnap kingpin Don Waney.
Making the allegation in a press briefing, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Barr. Emma Okah said the purpose of hobnobbing with the wanted criminals was for the APC to ensure their membership of the APC and “in return grant them protection and liberty.”
The Commissioner stated; “The Rivers State Government today (Monday) is in receipt of credible intelligence to the effect that the federal government has concluded plans to grant amnesty to those 32 cultists who were declared wanted by the Security Council of Rivers State.”
He added; “Details of this intelligence put together indicate that the Federal Government is granting the cultists amnesty for the purpose of undue electoral advantage in the forthcoming 2019 general election.”
Okah stated that the action of the Federation government was not surprising to the state because “we have repeatedly said it that some officials and agencies of the Federation government were frustrating the fight against violent crimes and criminality in our state.”
“In particular, we have accused the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS of not just being involved directly in perpetrating violent crimes in Rivers State but also are aiding and abetting such crimes in our state,” he stressed.
He further alleged that SARS had not ceased from it’s nefarious activities lamenting that such things happening at the stage where the state was recording appreciable success in the war against cultism and kidnapping constituted to a major setback and a ploy to undermine the security of Rivers State and bring to nought the enormous financial resources spent by the state on ensuring the security of lives and property.
The Commissioner stated, “sadly each time we record success in the promotion of security in our state the Federal Government and her agencies take definite steps to sabotage the security of the state by instigating of some unpatriotic sons of Rivers State who are serving at the centre.”
He called on the international community, civil society organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to take notice of these demonstrate acts to compromise the security of Rivers State for ungodly political gains by the APC-led Federal Government.
