Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi on Tuesday expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu’s communication on the state of emergency declared in Rivers State will be read on the floor of the House on Wednesday.

Rotimi confirmed this during an exclusive chat with Tribune Online, saying “I believe that Mr. President’s letter would have been transmitted and be read in the Parliament tomorrow.”
According to President Tinubu’s broadcast, he observed that: “Mr. President, in exercising his powers as provided in Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), has declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
He also observed that the Governor, Deputy, all state legislators were suspended for an initial period of 6 months.
The House Spokesman also confirmed that: “Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok Ete Ibas (22nd Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Nigerian Navy from 2015 to 2021), appointed as Sole Administrator for 6 months.”
While confirming that the State Judiciary was not affected by the State of emergency, Rotimi highlighted that: “Mr. President in keeping with the constitutional provisions of Section 305, stated that he has transmitted the gazetted proclamation to the National Assembly and it must be approved by a resolution of both Houses within two days (if they are in session) or within 10 days (if they are not in session).”
