A middle-aged man suspected to be a robber, on Wednesday, met his waterloo as he was trying to rob in a residence at Lodge Street, adjacent to Apostolic Faith Church, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The suspect, who gave his name as Wasiu Murtala, and claimed to live around Sogoye area, Idi-arere, Ibadan, told Metro he was searching for abandoned pots, iron materials and the likes to make ends meet.
But some of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the suspect jumped the fence of a popular soft drink distributor to unleash damage on the owner through a route in the area around 5:30a.m.
Unknown to Murtala, one of the staff of the soft drink store was inside, as he was making move to enter the inner shop, the staff and another resident who saw the suspect while jumping the fence, raised the alarm and swooped on him.
The alarm alerted other residents who trooped out to catch a glimpse of the suspect, believed to be one of the armed robbers who had been terrorising the neighbourhood in the last few weeks.
Some of the residents revealed that they had lost valuable items to the robbers, who had continued to raid the streets.
The suspect was later handed over to police officers from Challenge Division, Ibadan, who came with a police van with registration no NPF 8567c around 7.50a.m.
