THE Rector of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Dr Silas Gyar, has warned new students of the institution against involvement in cultism.
Gyar, who gave the warning at the matriculation of 1,498 students for the 2016/2017 academic session, said the school has zero tolerance for cultism.
He added that any student found culpable would be expelled and handed over to the police for prosecution.
“I advise those of you who joined these cults before seeking admission into the polytechnic to denounce membership in your own interest as any student associated with such will be expelled,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1, 423 students are for National Diploma programmes while 75 are for the Higher National Diploma courses.
Gyar advised the new students to justify their admission by taking their academic programmes seriously and adhering strictly to the rules and regulations of the institution.
“As you begin your study at the polytechnic, I encourage you to strive for excellence in your academic pursuit,” he said.
He commended Gov Tanko Al-Makura for repositioning the polytechnic, especially in the provision of hostel accommodation and procurement of land for the expansion of the institution.
