Ramadan: Use fasting to promote unity, Damagum urges Muslims

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iliya Umar Damagum, has called on Muslims to use the Ramadan fasting period to foster political cohesion and national unity in Nigeria.

Damagum made the appeal in a statement on Sunday to mark the commencement of the 2025 Ramadan fast. The statement was issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Malam Yusuf Dingyadi.

He urged Muslims to dedicate themselves to prayers and supplications for the improvement of peace and national development, emphasizing that Nigeria needs political stability and unity to overcome security and developmental challenges.

“As a nation, we are faced with numerous security and developmental challenges that threaten our collective survival. This is why we must take advantage of the Ramadan season to pray for peace, stability, and progress,” Damagum stated.

He also encouraged wealthy Nigerians to extend acts of charity beyond their immediate families to those in need, in line with the spirit of Ramadan.

Furthermore, he urged Nigerians to emulate the exemplary lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who taught the immense benefits of generosity, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

The PDP chairman’s message underscores the importance of Ramadan as a period of reflection, compassion, and unity, especially in a time when the country faces various socio-political challenges.
