Supporters, orphans, and lnternally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Zamfara state are to benefit from the 172 trucks of food items donated by the former Governor of the state, Abdul Aziz Yari Abubakar for this year ramadan fast .
This was made known by Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa during the flagging up of the exercise in Gusau at the weekend.
According to him, this year, 172 trucks of food items will be distributed to the people of the state across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.
Marafa said the gesture was aimed at providing social welfare among the people of the state most especially the orphans and less privileged.
The former lawmaker noted that the insecurity bedevilling the state has produced hundreds of orphans and IDPs , saying it was for this reason that they have been considered.
He gave the break down of the commodities as follows 50 trucks of rice, 50 trucks of millet, 50 trucks of maize and 22 trucks of sugar.

On how the items would be distributed, the former Senator representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District disclosed that the supporters of the former governor across the 14 local government councils will share 105 trucks, while 15 trucks will be shared to 5, 000 orphans and 47 trucks will be given to an NGO (Zamfara Circle) who will distribute it to the IDPs.
He said the remaining 5 trucks will be kept in case of emergency.
“But we are going to inaugurate 16 man committee, who are going to monitor the exercise, to ensure that the foodstuffs reached the rightful IDPs, every where they are across the state,” he concluded.
The ceremony was held at Gidan Dawa area in Gusau the state capital was attended by the former Govenor elect Mukthar Idris Kogunan Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Nabature Nahuche, Alhaji Lawal.M Liman, among others.
