The Parents Teacher Association of Nigeria(PTAN) has called for the immediate release of kidnapped secondary school students in the Awon community of Kachia local government of Kaduna state.
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, the national president of the association, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma called on the state government to put more effort in rescuing all the kidnapped students.
He equally drew the attention of states and the federal government to secure all primary and secondary schools across the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja against the activities of terrorists, bandits and kidnappers.
Danjuma also appealed to all stakeholders and security experts to always support the government with advice on ways to protect schools so as to boost the quality of education in the country.
He expressed worry over the harmful effects of banditry and kidnapping for ransom that is now affecting tertiary institutions, as well as primary and secondary education in the country, especially in the northern part of the country.
To this end, the PTAN leader called on states and federal government to equip all schools with digital learning equipment, while encouraging government, wealthy individuals, traditional leaders and religious bodies to support the deployment of hunters, joint task force, vigilantes, paramilitary personnel etc to all schools in order to compliment the effort of police and other security outfits.
PTAN, therefore, reminded President Muhammad Buhari as well as security chiefs to ensure that the remaining students of Federal Government Girls College, Yawuri in Kebbi state, Government Girls secondary school Chibok in Borno, and Bethel Secondary School in Kaduna state who are still in the hands of bandits and terrorists are released in order to enable them to meet their families.
“We as parents will still like to remind the government that there are students of a secondary school in Kebbi state, Bono state as well as in Kaduna state still with these terrorists. And we are appealing to the government to ensure that all these students are released within the shortest possible time.”
While commending the effort of the Nigerian security forces for their contributions to restoring peace in the Northeast and Northwest, he equally commended the effort of the Ministry of Education at both the federal and state levels for their tenacity in moving the educational sector amidst these security challenges.
