MEMBERS of the Police Service Commission (PSC) led by the former Commissioner of Police, Musiliu Smith, at the weekend arrived Enugu the Enugu State capital to begin a 4-day stakeholders summit to chart a new course for the police.
In a statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations Unit of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, on Saturday said the gathering which is expected to commence on Monday would deliberate on how to chart a new direction for Nigeria Police Force.
Ani said thar the Commission had assembled stakeholders in the policing sector and other high profile Resource Persons who are expected to converge at the Coal city to brainstorm on the best way forward for the Force.

Expected at the Commission’s 4-day Management Retreat with theme: “Repositioning and Strengthening the Police Service Commission for Effective Mandate Delivery” are the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the hierarchy of the Force in the South East; the Chairman of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Police Affairs; Human Rights and Development bodies; Representatives from the British High Commission and American Embassy;
Others are the Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms and National Coordinator of SERVICOM
The Retreat, he said, is expected to produce a strategic plan that would serve as a roadmap for the Commission’s decision making processes in a robust pursuit of its mandate.
“The Commission is constitutionally charged with the responsibilities of Recruitment, Promotion and Discipline of officers of the Nigeria Police up to the rank of Deputy – Inspector General.
“Two papers, “PSC: From Potential to Effective Mandate Delivery” and “PSC/Police Relationship: Making it beneficial for Nigerians” will be delivered at the Retreat by seasoned Resource Persons while technical sessions and discussions will also hold.
He also said that the Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Smith, woukd set the agenda for the new Management inaugurated on July 25, 2018 by President Muhammadu Buhari
He noted that the Commission is committed to speedily repositioning the Police Force for optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
