Authorities in Katsina State have imposed a statewide curfew to curb the activities of hoodlums intent on looting innocent people’s properties.
The curfew is implemented in two parts: a 24-hour restriction in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area and a 12-hour restriction, from 7 pm to 7 am, in the remaining 33 Local Government Areas.
Abdullahi Garba Faskari, the Secretary to the State Government, announced this decision in a statement issued to newsmen.
The government has also banned unusual gatherings and all types of protests across the state.
The decision followed an emergency State Security Council meeting concerning the reported breakdown of law and order during the August 1 protest.
The government noted with concern reports indicating that miscreants had hijacked the protest and looted properties.
“Therefore, the government finds it necessary to impose a curfew to safeguard people’s lives and properties in the state,” the statement added.
A Tribune correspondent in Katsina observed that the protests have ceased, likely due to the presence of heavily armed security forces stationed in sensitive areas such as markets, superstores, and government installations in the metropolis.
