Primary: Ogun APC chairman declares Akinlade as winner

THE Ogun State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Derin Adebiyi, has declared Honourable Adekunle Akinlade, as the winner of the governorship primaries in the state.

Adebiyi at a news conference held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, said Akinlade, who is representing Yewa South/Ipokia in the House of Representatives, polled the highest number of valid votes.

He was said to have polled 190,987 votes out of 201,620 valid votes cast in all the 236 wards of the state.

The chairman said Jimi Lawal, a seasoned banker scored 5,046 votes while Dapo Abiodun came third with 3,648, adding that a former commissioner in the Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s cabinet came fourth with 898 votes, Senator Gbenga Kaka in the fifth position with 833 votes and Abayomi Hunye with 208 votes.

He claimed that the election was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant stakeholders.

Adebiyi alleged that the panel set up by the National Working Committee had been “highly compromised”

“When we later got through to them in the evening on Sunday, they promised to arrive on Monday.

“They arrived on Monday and at the meeting held at the MITROS Suites, Ibara, Abeokuta, the NWC panel told us the primary would hold on Tuesday.

“The party members were all in their wards waiting for the NWC panel, but they never showed up,” the chairman said.
