THE Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala Usman, has denied any investigation of the agency’s financial books by the Presidency under her administration, stating that she will not bend in her resolve to rid the agency of corruption. Usman stated this on her personal Twitter handle while condemning insinuations of her giving out monies to some APC Chieftains.
According to the NPA boss, “My attention has been drawn to malicious lies being bandied around by a Prince, Henry Nwazuruahu on my person. I will not be cowed or intimidated into conforming to corrupt practises of cheating the Federal Government of Nigeria of its revenues.
“I will not budge on my position on compliance to Federal Governments policies and I will not bow on my stance to rid the NPA of corrupt practises. My stand on zero tolerance for corruption and of instituting transparency, accountability and good governance into NPA operations remain firm.
“I challenge those peddling false rumours to provide evidence on my meeting with APC Chieftain and evidence to the alleged bribe; and indeed, we are open to any such investigation as we have nothing to hide.
“We have not received any such notification by the Presidency of an investigation into our financial books. No false and malicious attacks or threats to my life will stand in the way of my doing the right thing.
“I have been issued with death threats and veiled messages conveying that my life is at risk because of the stance I have taken. In the last few days, I have faced a barrage of false, malicious lies against my person in the media, and I know the sponsors of this.
“I wish to challenge the sponsors of this false lies to provide the authorship to this report, because I shall file a suit against them in the court of law for defamation of character. I wish to challenge them to bring up evidence on any such meetings with any APC Chieftain and any monies being given.”
