In a bid to get the best output from its academic staff, the Department of Physics of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, recently organised a training workshop for them.
The training workshop tagged: Training the trainers was held at the Central Research Laboratory, The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
According to the Head of Department, Mr Ademola Akande the main objective of the workshop was to tap from the wisdom of the trailblazers in the department and also enhance the old landmarks for proper continuity of good works.
“There is a need for improvement in our effectiveness in rendering the service we have been employed to render.
Hence, there is a need to organise a workshop of this kind. We can produce good and responsible graduates who will make The Polytechnic, Ibadan proud.”

One of the invited speakers, Dr Oladipo Olakunle Adejumo said each academic staff must have set goals for improvement. He also urged them not to focus only on teaching and examinations but must spend time on research works and publications.
He, however, called on the department to support staff on undergoing a series of training so that they can become better.
Adejumo, also suggested that fresh graduate lecturers should be assigned to senior lecturers who are to supervise them on the handling of classes, forming of notes, setting of examination questions and marking guide/scheme.
The second speaker, Dr Isaac Oluwafemi Ayeni, who spoke on the topic: “physics as the science of measurement”, called on lecturers, laboratory technicians to work together. He said they should spend time preparing for the experiments and practical. Ayeni said that proper documentation of the store should be kept and the instrument should be arranged properly for easy access. He added that all instruments should be checked from time to time to ascertain they are in good condition.
The Rector of the institution, Professor Kazeem Adebiyi, while giving his address thanked the Department of Physics for organising the workshop, while thanking the two invited speakers for taking their time to honour the invitation to attend the workshop as well as their continuous desire to see the department grow.
The Deputy Rector, Mrs Abiodun Olubamiwa, while addressing the gathering commended the department, while calling on other departments to take a cue from the department of physics and organise such workshop.
Dean, Faculty of Science Mr Musibau Ayinla, pledged the Faculty’s resolve to continue to make the capacity building of academic and non-academic staff a priority in order to get the best out of them.
One of the high points of the event was the question and answer session where the two speakers did justice to questions asked by participants.
