While residents are claiming that 27 people were killed in the latest attack in Sabon Birni, police in the state said that only nine people were killed in the attack.
Sokoto State police command while confirming the attack by suspected marauding bandits said the attack affected three villages in Sabon Birni local government area.
The command Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sanusi noted that nine persons were killed in the separate attacks that took place between November 15 and 17, 2021.
He said the first attack, which took place at Garin Zago in Sabon Birni local government, resulted in the death of three persons while three others were kidnapped.
Mr Sanusi said another attack on the 16th of November, 2021, a vehicle was attacked in Gaji village but no casualties were recorded.
The police spokesman said another attack took place on November 17, 2021, at Sangirawa village where six persons were killed by the assailants and several others injured.
He said based on the findings of the police personnel on the ground in the local government, the three attacks resulted in the death of nine persons contrary to the figures been circulated by different sources.
Meanwhile, a resident of the town, Honourable Idris Muhammed Gobir, disagreed with the figure as given by the police.
Gobir, who is also a special assistant to the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, disclosed that the said attacks claimed 27 lives.
He said while 21 persons were killed on November 16 in three villages, four were killed on November 15 with six others injured, adding that another two people were killed on November 14.
Gobir, however, maintained that he has the names of all the people killed as well as the injured ones.
