The Ekiti State police command, on Friday, raised the alarm over influx of commercial motorcyclist popularly called Okada, describing them as criminals planning to unleash terror in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Amba Asuquo in a statement noted the command gathered that the new faces were out to involve in robbery, kidnapping and other heinous crimes pretending to be Okada riders in the state.
According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Abutu Sunday, the commissioner of police directed that all motorcycles must be properly registered with relevant authorities
” These suspected persons, in their multitude, flushed into the State with motorcycles, pretending to be commercial motorcyclist popularly called Okada. Information at our disposal has it that these suspected persons could cause criminal act in no distant time, ranging from stealing, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

” In view of this, the Commissioner of Police, CP Amba Asuquo has directed that all motorcycles across the State must be properly registered with the relevant Authorities and relevant document of Ownership / Registration.
” The police shall henceforth arrest, impound and prosecute anybody (motorcyclist) found perpetrating criminal acts,” the statement reads.
Asuquo while calling on landlords to know proper identities of their tenants to avoid harbouring criminals, he advised residents to report any suspected criminals to the nearest police station.
He assured that the command would continue to do everything possible to nip in the bud all criminal tendencies in the state.
