Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed the kidnap of a farmer in Omu Aran in the Irepodun local government area of the state, on Thursday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Okasanmi Ajayi, said that the command, though, received the information late, had through the directive of the state commissioner of police, commenced investigation towards a safe rescue of the kidnap victim.
Also, the Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA) confirmed the kidnap incident involving an indigene of the community.
The president of the association, Major General Olayemi Lasisi Abidoye (rtd), said in a statement in Omu-Aran that the victim was kidnapped in his farm, in a place near Rore, an adjoining community to Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun local government area of Kwara.
However, residents of the area have expressed their sadness over the kidnap and security situation in the area in recent times and called on government and security operatives to find a lasting solution.
“It is rather unfortunate that that one of our own was kidnapped yesterday.
“Efforts are on to rescue him, through the combined efforts of local hunters from Omu Aran, Rore, Aranorin, the Civil Defense and the Nigeria Police.
“However, what happened today in Omu Aran was not a protest, it was rather a prayer session organised by Olomu of Omu Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti,” he said.
The statement urged members of the community not to entertain any fear and go about their businesses without fear as security operatives are working round the clock to safeguard lives and property in the area.
The association commended the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, and members of his council for their relentless efforts in ensuring that the community is rid of criminals.
The statement urged the members of the community to report strange happenings in the area to the security agencies or their compound’s chief.
The ODA also warned members of the community not to harbour or accommodate strangers without proper records.
