Police arraign three for attempted felony in Lagos

The police in Lagos have arraigned three traders at the Surulere Magistrates’ Court on three count charge of assault with intent to commit felony, assault occasioning harm and conduct likely to breach of public peace.

According to records by the police, the trio committed the alleged crime at the Akorede Ultra-modern warehouse in Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

The defendants including Amaka Azobandu (34), Ugochukwu Stella (30), and Nkem Obiegwu (50), assaulted and inflicted bodily injuries on the chairman of Itire-Ikate revenue collection board, Mrs Dosunmu Adetola, while on official duty on the facility.

The charge sheet read, “That you Amaka Akobandu, Ugochukwu Stella and Nkem Obeigwu at Akorede warehouse, Ijeshatedo, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial district did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit assault occasioning harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 411 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.

That you Amaka Akobandu, Ugochukwu Stella and Nkem Obeigwu at Akorede warehouse, Ijeshatedo, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Dosunmu Adetola by beating her and cause her pain on her face and ear and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 173 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.

That you Amaka Akobandu, Ugochukwu Stella and Nkem Obeigwu at Akorede warehouse, Ijeshatedo, Lagos in the aforementioned Magisterial district did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by beaten on Dosunmu Adetola, the revenue chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA in the public at Akorede Warehouse and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 168 (D) of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.”

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Otitoloju adjourned the case to September 10, 2024, for further hearing.
