President of the group, Mr Bolanle Azeez, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen during the celebration of its 2018 Day, where professionals and other dignitaries gathered at the City Hall, Iseyin to celebrate the event.
Azeez restated that the mission of the group is to promote and work for the enthronement of social justice, social and economic equilibrium among the people of the community, while promoting academic and general educational development of the community.
According to him, “if you move around Oke-Ogun area of the state, you will agree with me that the area is underdeveloped in terms of infrastructure and education.
“The marginalisation is too obvious in our area. Look at Ibadan-Iseyin road, Oyo-Iseyin road, among others; it is high time we wake up from our slumber and bring the necessary development to our area.
He, however, called on well-meaning individuals, members of the community and friends of the movement to collaborate with them so as to enlarge the scope of the various awards to deserving students and teachers.
The event also witnessed football competition among youths, scholarship awards to brilliant students ranging from primary school to tertiary institution, outstanding awards also went to best five teachers in the community.
In his lecture entitled: “Electoral process and challenges of good governance in Nigeria: An Oke-Ogun example”, Professor Akinpelu Olutayo, said he supported the assumption that quality of the electoral process in Nigeria would inevitably determine the quality of good governance.
Olutayo further asserted that every country should evolve its own strand of democracy ‘that best suits its history, culture, social values, economy and politics.
He decried the use of imported system of democracy in the country, adding that elections have been seen to be more important than democracy as a way of life.
In his remarks, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulganiy Ologunebi, commended members of the group for their contributions to the development of the community and their efforts in ensuring Iseyin indigenes students were successful in their educational pursuit.
Oba Ologunebi, however, prayed God to continue enrich their purse as they always use their personal resources to assist others.
One of the beneficiary students, Fajinmi Adekunle, on behalf of other recipients thanked PMI for counting them worthy of the gesture, adding that the gesture would motivate them to perform more brilliantly in their studies.
