Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has alleged that he had been marked for death by a highly placed figure.
He made the allegation when he appeared on a television programme, on Tuesday, to speak on the fight against corruption which he noted is fighting back.
He said he has been threatened on the line of duty by a highly placed individual in the country even though the call was not directly to him but by a proxy.
“Last week, I was in New York, as all Nigerians are aware of. A very senior citizen received a phone call from somebody that is not even under investigation. What he (the caller) said to him on phone is that; he is going to kill the EFCC chairman, the young man.
“He said, ‘I am going to kill him. I am going to kill him’. This is to tell you how bad it is. It is actually real. Corruption can fight back,” he said.
Bawa replaced the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, who appeared before an investigative Panel following Senate confirmation of his appointment as the first Chairman of the Commission from the first set of cadets employed by the Commission.
