Please reopen shut schools, PTA begs Oyo govt

CHAIRMAN, Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA), Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr Michael Akinpelu, has appealed to the state government to reopen the schools shut down recently in the area.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting summoned by the chairman of the local government area, Mr Akinpelu said the call became necessary, in view of the need for the students to continue with their academic pursuit.

Mr Akinpelu, who apologised on behalf of the students to the state government over their unruly behaviour, promised that such would never occur again.

Earlier, the chairman of council, Mr Azeez Ojetunde, had urged parents and school heads to inculcate discipline in their children.                                        Ojetunde, at a meeting with principals of secondary schools, local inspectors of education, PTA and security agencies, expressed his displeasure over the recent riot, adding that destruction that followed the incident was inimical to development.

He advised the parents to train their children in the ways of the Lord and also urged principals to report any threat to peace to the security agencies.
