Stakeholders of the Labour Party (LP) in Plateau North Senatorial District of Plateau State have denounced their membership of the LP and are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling on the party’s senatorial candidate in the previous election, Hon. Gyang Zi (SAN), to do the same.
This was contained in a communiqué issued and signed by various stakeholders of the party in the senatorial zone at the end of their meeting in Jos, Plateau State.
The stakeholders, in the communiqué, highlighted that the structural deficits in the party at both the national and state levels of the Labour Party leave them with no choice but to advise their leader in the senatorial zone, Gyang Zi, to leave the LP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the hope and belief that the leadership of the APC will guarantee him fair treatment and opportunities to carry them along.
According to the communiqué, the stakeholders condemned the crisis in the LP at the national level, adding that the leadership tussle at the national level violates the core principles and values for the formation of the Labour Party as an alternative party for Nigeria, especially for the protection and sustenance of democracy, as well as ensuring lasting peace and social justice.
The stakeholders noted that the leadership tussle has also divided the party into factions, leaving party loyalists and supporters in a state of despondency and confusion, not knowing where to belong.
They further highlighted that the recent efforts by leaders at the national and state levels were aimed at continuing to stay in office beyond their tenure and may lead to what befell the PDP in the state during the 2023 general election, resulting in their removal from elected offices.
The communiqué declared: “That joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in the best interest of all and the state. The house calls on the Working Committee of APC to organise a warm reception in his honour and for his numerous supporters in order to tell the world of this development.
“Having noted the total failure of our former party’s neoliberal and anti-people policies under the weak leadership and/or selfish interest of these same leaders on the Plateau, the house made the following resolutions:
“Members hereby denounce their membership of the Labour Party (LP) and now wish to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the date of this publication, 2025.”
The stakeholders therefore advised all lovers and supporters of Hon. Gyang Zi, SAN, in the Northern Senatorial Zone at all levels to unite and ensure their loyalty to the party is now to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On the performance of the PDP-led administration in Plateau State, the stakeholders posited that they could not trace much positive impact of the present government at the state level on the Plateau and therefore have no faith that there will be any better achievements without the Federal Government’s intervention and presence on the Plateau.
They therefore concluded that Mr President has done a lot for Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, and hence deserves the support of all, adding that Gyang Zi, SAN, should join the APC.
