The new speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda has threatened to arrest the impeached speaker, Nuhu Abok Ayuba if he continues to parade himself as speaker of the house, and also suspended five other lawmakers loyal to Ayuba.
Speaking with newsmen alongside 12 other members of the house, Hon Sanda who expressed displeasure over what transpired in the House on Monday called on the security agency to arrest the former speaker for parading a fake mace.
He pointed out that the house under his leadership has set up two committees to investigate the former speaker’s financial embezzlement and misappropriation.
“The former speaker and 10 of his loyalist had convened an illegal sitting in an event hall in Zawan where they announced a sham and baseless suspension of authentic leaders and members of the state house as well as breaking into the hallowed chambers of the honourable house, today Monday, November 1, to further denigrate the house.
“This house must take firm measures to forestall such occurrences from happening again. This house hereby suspends the 6 members with effects from 1st November 2021 till further notice,” He said.
Those suspended are, Hon Nuhu Abok Ayuba – Jos East, Hon Henry Longs – Pankshine South, Hon Dangtong Timothy – Riyom, Hon Musa Agah – Rukuba/Iregwe, Hon Bala Fwanje – Mangu South and Hon Nambol Listic – Langtang North.
He then called on the security agencies to take charge of the House and ensure that the suspended members are not allowed access to this honourable house while their suspension persists.
Also, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State has condemned what it called the illegal and forceful occupation of the Plateau State House of Assembly by eleven Members of the House of Assembly believed to be loyal to Nuhu Abok Ayuba, the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary Hon. Slyvanus Namang who alleged that the eleven members on Monday broke into the House of Assembly Complex under the cover of darkness at the very odd hour of the night said the action of the members, apart from sending very wrong and dangerous signals which are antithetical to the tenets of democracy, tends to portray their abuse and ignorance of the principle of legislative financial autonomy which the House now enjoy.
“We are seizing this opportunity to advise Nuhu Abok and his group to toe the path of honour and respect our cherished institutions and the rule of law which are hallmarks of democracy instead of the embarrassing and blind desperation to reclaim the Speaker’s seat which he has since lost following his impeachment by his colleagues last week.
“Our dear state is in dire need of peace and nothing should be done to truncate such peace which Governor Simon Lalong along with the security agencies and relevant bodies/stakeholders have, over the years, been putting in their best to maintain”.
The party further implored Hon Nuhu Abok Ayuba and his colleagues to accept the reality on the ground and co-operate with the new Speaker, Right Honourable Yakubu Sanda and settle down for normal legislative duties instead of the unnecessary overheating of the system.
