Popular blogger and social media influencer, Ipadeola Abiodun Oriyomi, has charged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of giving and let altruism become a common habit, saying “there is a blessing in the simple act of helping others.”
Known by his alias of Swag Omoluabi, Oriyomi further explained: “As part of the human family, we each have to cultivate the habit of giving to others, no matter how small. You don’t have to be a millionaire before you can help other people. You can always help within your capacity. The streets are littered with people that need help.”
Continuing, he said: “Give, no matter how small it is. People will appreciate it. Even your widow’s mite will bring succour to someone, wipe away tears and put smiles on faces. What you are giving might seem little to you, but the receiver might cherish it more than you expected. People who need help want to be assisted, no matter how meagre what you are giving them.”
Swag Omoluabi further asserted that “God rewards the giver.”
His words: “Among the Yoruba, there is a saying that, “Oke l’owo afunni ‘ngbe,” roughly meaning, “he who gives never lacks.”
“Anyone who understands this about life will not hesitate to show love and reach out to people in need, no matter how little you have to give to them.”
Speaking further, Swag Omoluabi maintained that giving is one of the things he doesn’t don’t joke with. “I was born and raised in an environment where more than 40 people shared one restroom. Since then, I’d told myself, ‘I am going to try my best to make people happy and help this country to solve the poverty problem.”
