The OBIdient Movement has expressed concern over what it describes as a reckless attack on the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
The movement is particularly upset about recent comments made by Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress National Publicity Secretary, on Arise TV.
Morka’s statement, which implied that Obi has “crossed the line” and will face consequences, has been interpreted by the OBIdient Movement as a direct threat to Obi’s life and a signal of the country’s descent into authoritarianism under the Tinubu administration.
The movement has demanded to know what specific statements or actions by Obi justify Morka’s comments and what authority he has to draw such a line.
They also want to know what exactly Morka means by “what’s coming to” Obi.
The OBIdient Movement has accused the Tinubu administration of choosing repression over dialogue and intimidation over engagement.
They have warned that if any harm befalls Obi, his family, or associates, the Nigerian government and its agents will be held directly responsible.
“We categorically state that if any harm befalls Mr Peter Obi, his family, or anyone associated with him, the Nigerian government and its agents will be held directly responsible,” the statement partly read.
The movement has called on Nigerians and the international community to take note of the pattern of threats and intimidation adopted by the ruling party and to hold those in power accountable.
They have also urged the security services to take Morka’s comments seriously and to investigate the matter further.
