PDP will win elective positions in 2027 — Party chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of the party’s zoning committee, Dr. Mahe Dange, has said the party cannot be destroyed, as he postulated that it will win elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview in Kaduna on Wednesday, he said the convention held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, which produced party officials, has put to shame those who think that the party has gone into extinction.

“How can you destroy a party that has spent 16 years in power, produced presidents, governors, ministers, countable senators, and other elective positions? I think that’s a tall dream,” he said.

Dange, who is also a member of the disciplinary committee of PDP, assured that the party will bounce back, describing what’s happening as just a setback.

“I want to tell you it still remains a formidable opposition. You can’t impose a one-party system in Nigeria. It will not work. Let all governors and political office holders decamp to APC; I tell you, Nigerians are the ones to vote.

“Just wait and see what will happen in 2027. We will definitely win elective offices,” he stressed.

Dange, who also holds the traditional title of Yariman Sokoto, commended the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, for standing firm to ensure that the convention holds and that elected officials entered their offices at the national Secretariat.

“The two governors demonstrated remarkable commitment to upholding the Party’s constitution and ensuring that PDP remains a force to reckon with in Nigerian politics,” he said.

“Whatever happens, there are party members that can never leave the party, no matter the provocation and intimidation,” he declared.
