
BENUE State deputy governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, has stated announced that the state government has received N6.4 billion as second tranche from the Paris club refund.
Abounu disclosed this to newsmen yesterday at end of the state executive council meeting presided by him at government house Makurdi.
Abounu said that the money would be channelled to the payment of salary and pension allowance after one or two processes would have been completed.
He stated that the ongoing staff verification exercise by his committee has shown discrepancies, but said the detail would be disclosed at the end of the exercise.
”I wish to inform you that we expected over N12 billion as second trench of the refund, but only half of the amount was released by federal government due to paucity of funds,” Abounu stated.
On the Benue State University (BSU)-ASUU strike, Engineer Abounu state explained that government has engaged in meaningful discussion, saying that the matter involved in the strike would soon been resolved.
He however expressed hope that very soon the university would resume and students will return to campus in very near future.
