In a bid to ensure massive production of cassava in the state, the Oyo State Agricultural Development Programme (OYSADEP), has entered into a partnership with HarvestPlus, an agriculture company with specialisation in the multiplication of Vitamin A cassava stems to distribute the stems to farmers’ group leaders and extension agents.
The distribution, Nigerian Tribune gathered would in a short while be extended to farmers for further planting in all the 33 local government area of the state.
The farmers’ group leaders and extension agents in the state received the cassava stems during a training which was organised for them recently.
The Programme Manager, OYSADEP, Mrs. Fadekemi Akande, noted that the training is aimed at covering its entire value chain, adding that the training would be continuous.
She informed that the training was meant to sensitize the farmers on the production and importance of vitamin A cassava, with its nutritional benefits and wide application.
The beneficiaries were trained on series of cassava production processes, some of which include; best agricultural practices, safe use of agrochemicals, record keeping and cost savings.
In attendance at the training were: the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Victor Atiola, officials from OYSADEP and HarvestPlus, Extension agents, farmers and other relevant stakeholders.
