Oyo Tech Hub has empowered no fewer than 300 boys and girls with skills in digital literacy.
The event held at the Tech Hub in Oyo town, brought together boys and girls who are willing to explore the world of technology.
One of the major highlights of the event was a keynote address delivered remotely by Chief IT Security Advisor at Oyo Tech Hub and a globally recognised cybersecurity expert based in the UK, Abiodun Adegbola.
Sharing his inspiring journey in technology, Adegbola captivated the young audience with stories of resilience and perseverance.
He noted that: ”The tech industry is dynamic and ever-evolving. The key to success lies in your ability to stay curious and keep learning,” he remarked. His emphasis on continuous learning resonated with attendees as he urged them to complete their assigned IT Fundamentals modules over the weekend, setting a tone of accountability and growth.
At the heart of the event was the unveiling of the IT Fundamentals curriculum, a structured learning pathway designed to equip participants with essential technology skills.
Presented by Managing Partner and Digital Transformation Leader at Oyo Tech Hub, Mr. Ibukun Atoro, the curriculum covers key areas such as computer basics, internet literacy, coding fundamentals, and cybersecurity awareness.
Atoro stated that: “The IT Fundamentals curriculum is more than just an introduction to technology. It is a bridge to opportunities and a future where young learners can thrive as creators and innovators.”
The programme’s hands-on approach ensures that participants not only learn theoretical concepts but also gain practical experience to spark their interest in diverse tech careers.
While sharing details of the vision and impact of Oyo Tech Hub, the Hub’s Programme Coordinator, Ms. Adetola Adeyemi, said: ”We are not just teaching tech skills; we are shaping the future of our society. Our mission is to make digital literacy accessible and to inspire these young minds to envision a world where they can be leaders and innovators.”
With a focus on inclusivity, the hub ensures that both boys and girls participate equally, encouraging young women to step into technology fields often dominated by men.
The event also featured breakout sessions which included: interactive coding workshops where participants explored basic programming concepts, creating their first interactive web pages. Also, there were awareness talks: A session dedicated to understanding online safety, led by local tech professionals.
Participants expressed excitement about the opportunities ahead. One of them, a 13-year-old Fatima, said, “I never imagined learning to code could be this much fun. I want to build apps someday.”
