The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Oyo State coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, has urged corps members to give their very best towards rebuilding and restoring the unity of the country.

She made this call during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ (stream I) corps members deployed to Oyo and Lagos State at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Iseyin, on Monday.

She noted that a total number of 2165 corps members, comprising of 899 male and 1266 females including dislodged corps members from Lagos State were registered.

Ogbuogebe charged the newly sworn-in corps members to see the call to service as a privilege to contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria.

She added that the enormous challenges currently experienced in the country require the collective efforts of everyone including the youths to salvage it.

She said, “You are encouraged to contribute immensely your quota towards the sustainable development of the nation and the state in particular, especially in the areas of Community Development Service (CDS) by embarking on laudable development projects.

“As the young leaders of our great nation on whose shoulders the unity of Nigeria lies, I urge you to strive and acquaint yourselves of the opportunities available at all times.”

While noting that the exercise was designed to create an opportunity for them to discover the hidden talent they possess as well as empower them for the future, the state coordinator further encouraged the newly sworn-in corps members to utilise the orientation activities including sport, socials, and skill acquisition programmes.

“I stand to assure you that Oyo State is adjudged the most hospitable state in the nation. Its friendly disposition has been extended to corps members deployed to the state over the years, resulting in most of your predecessors settling down in the state after their service year. I urge you to make ample opportunity of learning the culture of the Yoruba people,” she added.

Charging the corps members to comply with the COVID-19 safety protocols while on camp, Ogbuogebe noted that wearing of face mask, regular washing of hands, maintaining physical distancing and the checking of body temperature was mandatory throughout the orientation programme.
