Oyo Assembly laments poor state of federal roads, appeal to Fashola

THE Oyo House of Assembly on Thursday appealed to the Mr Babatunde Fashola led Ministry of Works, Power and Housing to attend to the deplorable state of federal roads in the state.

With typical examples like the Oyo-Ogbomoso road, Oyo-Iseyin, Ibadan-Ife road, the Honourable Michael Adeyemo led Assembly said the appeal became expedient owing to several road crashes, loss of manhours and hampered economic activities resulting from the poor roads.

Honourable Gbenga Oyekola of Atiba constituency who led debate on the issue as a matter of urgent public importance, remarked that the deterioration of the Oyo-Ogbomoso road continued to aggravate by the day.

He therefore urged the Ministry of Works and Housing to expedite the release of funds to the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the Oyo-Ogbomoso road.

The Assembly also granted Oyekola’s prayers urging the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to carry out palliative measures on the road, particularly damaged bridges from Tokun-Idode, Odo-Osun, Agboye-Tokun, Baba Ibeji-Alaidan.

In line with the submission of Ibadan North 2 constituency lawmaker, Honourable Olusegun Olaleye, the Assembly also urged federal lawmakers of the state, to key into the clamour.

In their contributions, Honourable Peter Oyetunji of Surulere/Oyo Oluwa constituency and his Irepo counterpart, Ganiyu Oseni urged the federal government not to totally neglect the old Oyo-Ogbomoso road in fixing the new expressway.

Speaker of the Assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo also lamented the deplorable state of federal roads in the state, mandating the House Committee on Works and Transport to liaise with FERMA on fixing the roads.
