Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has commissioned some N200 million worth of facilities in Methodist High School, Ilesa, following the donation of the said facilities by the Old Students Association of the school.
The governor described the contribution as remarkable in his speech at the 65th anniversary of the school.
Oyetola who spoke through the secretary to the state government, Elder Wole Oyebamiji, commended the old students Association of the School and said, “I commend your sense of unity and commitment to the ideal of an enduring partnership with your alma mater.”
“This should be worthy of emulation to other old students’ associations in our various schools in the state that are yet to start off on this note.
“I implore you to sustain the tradition of giving back to the school. I would also urge you to steer the students in that direction so that your objectives of sustainably developing your school will be sustained.
“As you all know, government alone cannot fund education. We (government) are therefore inviting alumni associations, corporate organisations, patriotic and well-meaning individuals, and groups, who share our vision of providing excellent and functional education for our youths to collaborate with us so that, together, we set the school on the lane of sustainable development.”
He further opined that giving back to one’s alma mater is a necessity to appreciate one of the fountains of one’s greatness in life.
In his submission at the event, the Speaker of the Osun State House Of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, described the contribution of the old students Association to the greatness of the school as commendable and charged them not to relent in adding more values to humanity.
He added, “the historical contributions of the school alumni, especially, their often support towards complementing the efforts of the state government at Methodist High School Ilesa has immensely opened doors of opportunities and developments in Ijesaland.”
The President of the association, Dideolu Falobie hinted that the association has spent over N200 million for the holistic development of the alma mater over the past six years, said, “the theme of this year’s anniversary, which is fully sponsored by the Old Students’ Association is “The Teachers and their Products: Living Legends”.
“The highlights of the celebration will include the commissioning of projects such as the newly completed multi-purpose hall, the newly refurbished Biology Laboratory, The Peter Ojo Astronomy centre.
“We will also celebrate some of our teachers who taught in the school between 1956 and 1990. Old students that passed out of the school between 1961 and 1970 will also be celebrated. Current teachers will be appreciated while brilliant students will also be encouraged.
“There will be quiz competition, basketball match and friendly football match among other programmes on Friday, October 29, 2021, while the anniversary celebration holds on Saturday, October 30, 2021, where the State Governor will deliver the keynote address, followed by commissioning of projects and celebration of first-generation teachers and students.”
