Oyebanji commissions new ABUAD hospital annex

The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has commissioned the Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) Multi-system Hospital annex in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The governor commissioned the well-equipped hospital, which includes two ambulances, located at the old local government secretariat, Odo-Ado, Igirigiri road in the state capital.

The founder of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, said the hospital was built to offer quality and accessible healthcare services to the people, especially those at the grassroots, bringing it closer to them.

The renowned lawyer explained that the institution over the years has been committed to the advancement of humanity through its research, innovation, and community services aimed at providing succor to the people.

He added that the hospital annex, which has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and experienced personnel, urged the people to visit the hospital to receive affordable healthcare services.

According to him, “We have in place a brand-new ambulance, equipped with modern facilities including a functional telephone line. Arrangements will be made for you to phone at any time, day or night, to pick you up from your destinations to the hospital free of charge for immediate medical attention.

“If this hospital annex provides you with first aid attention and you think you need further attention in the main hospital, you will also be conveyed to the main hospital free of charge.

“Contrary to the rumors going around that Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital is very expensive and that people even pay a dollar for registration fees, I say categorically that our fees are not only very affordable but also lower than what is being charged by other hospitals. A try will surely convince you.”

Babalola commended Governor Oyebanji for his untiring efforts and commitment to the development of the state, promising more support towards the industrialization of the state.

The elder statesman, who lamented the failures of successive governments in the state to follow the roadmaps designed by the forefathers, noted that their actions have contributed to the underdevelopment of the state.

He noted that the current governor has demonstrated strong leadership qualities with his humility, saying, “You are a blessing to this state and this generation. How much I wish that you had taken over the mantle of Ekiti leadership much earlier than destiny imposed on you.”

On the poor road networks leading to the hospital and the university, Babalola said all his efforts in the past for the government to build the roads have failed, expressing optimism in the governor to ensure the reconstruction of the road.

Speaking while commissioning the hospital annex, Governor Oyebanji said the facility would, in no small measure, bring healthcare services closer to the people, urging residents of the area to take ownership of the project for proper usage.

Describing the ABUAD founder as a blessing and gift to the state, the governor said his contributions and efforts to the development of Ekiti cannot be overemphasized.

Oyebanji said,” He is a rare gift for the state and he was created for a purpose and I can say that Baba is fulfilling the purpose for humanity. Afe Babalola is a government on his own and we are happy to associate with him in our quest for the development of Ekiti state.

“Baba Afe’s vision for Ekiti, especially in the area of industrialization, will be realized in his lifetime, and we will continue to work as a government to make him happy.”

He disclosed that the road leading to the new hospital annex would soon be constructed and that he would be meeting the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, later in the week on the need for the road linking the state capital to ABUAD and the Federal Polytechnic to be given consideration in the implementation of the 2024 federal budget.

The Chief Medical Director of ABUAD Multi-system Hospital, Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe, said the hospital annex was constructed by the institution to bring healthcare services closer to the people at affordable prices.
