Oyo State government has assured its citizens of its commitment to education towards making Oyo State come first in education.
This was disclosed on Saturday by the chairman committee on education, Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibadan Southwest constituency, Honourable Oluwafemi Fowokanmi, during the 30th-anniversary celebration of the establishment of Ansar-ud-deen high school Oke-Ado Ibadan.
According to him, Oyo State government’s aim is to ensure Oyo State comes first in education, adding that lots of things have been put in place to achieve it.
Hon Fowokanmi, represented by one of his aides Mr Oluwole Winjobi, stated that the state government has the plan to provide amenities for public schools such as chairs, textbooks and rehabilitation of classrooms
He further added that the government also wished to establish a free coaching centre to prepare students for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO)
Also speaking the commissioner for education a professor Daud Sangodoyin, lauds the old students towards their commitment in restructuring their alma mater.
He added that the decision of ADHSOSA, in reconstructing some of its facilities such as equipping the school laboratory, rehabilitation of the school gate, the school fence was a good decision.

“I cannot appreciate the old students enough for beautifying the school and making sure you leave a legacy of sense of responsibility for the current students of this school “, he said
The commissioner represented by the assistant director Ministry of Education, Mr Abraham Adeniran, however, urged students to work hard to reciprocate the gesture of the government, the old students association of the school and other stakeholders contributing positively to public schools in the state.
He further explained that in ensuring the government commitment to education the government has made some provisions for the students writing external examinations such as the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
“The government has given free Exercise books, textbooks and past questions to assist the final year students in writing their exams,” he said.
The initiator of Ansar-ud-deen high school, Alhaji Olayinka Lawal in his remarks also commended the government commitment to education in the state.
He emphasized that there is need for the government to help in creating more amenities in the school.
“I am happy with the plans the government have for the education sector but it is a pity education is not like the way it used to be in those days I implore the government to do more in the education sector in order the glory of public schools,” he said.
He, however, appealed to the government to create more facilities in public schools such as toilets for the students in order to make education takes place in a clean environment.
Speaking the National president of ADHSOSA, Otunba Olaogun Soliu, expressed his sadness over the challenges being faced by the school.
“We cannot just fold our hands and feel unconcerned about the sorry state of the school and that was the reason we tried to contribute our best in restoring our alma mater back to its old glory by embarking on some projects in the school,” he said.
The President lauds the government efforts towards improving the education sector.
“We are not unaware of the fact government cannot do everything in terms of education, it calls for the attention of all, we appreciate this administration for making education its utmost priority,” he said
