Dr Akpan Nsikak, Provost of Foreign Link College of Health Technology in Moro, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has encouraged governments at all levels to constantly promote primary health care, stating that it is a critical instrument for reaching optimal health in the twenty-first century.
Dr. Nsikak stated that Primary Health Care in Nigeria has significantly lowered maternal and child morbidity and death rates.
The Provost made this statement at the conclusion of the college’s annual health week on Friday.
According to a statement made available to Tribune on Tuesday, the provost advised Nigerians to always check their health condition, saying that nothing compares to excellent health.
Nsikak also added that the college has secured accreditation and approval of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in collaboration with respective Professional Boards and Councils to run National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in some programmes.
According to him, “Health week is a core component of the School of Health Programme with the sole objective of maintenance and restoration of the highest degree of physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of the school community.
“I want to say that Primary Health Care was declared in the USSR in 1978 as the only vital to achieving optimum health for all, especially in rural communities.
“The implementation of Primary Health Care in Nigeria has drastically reduced maternal and child morbidity and mortality through family planning, ante-natal and post-natal care, prevent childhood killer diseases through vaccination and immunisation.
“It is very important for Nigerians to always know the status of their health, eat well, sleep well, rest well and undertake exercise activities.
” Let me add that the college has secured accreditation and approval of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in collaboration with respective Professional Boards and Councils to run National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in the following programmes; Environmental Health Technology, Public Health Technology, Community Health Technology, Health Information Management and Dental Therapy.”

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the institution, Dr Fola Akinosun, advocated the need for the government to develop Nigerian youths.
Dr Akinosun also urged youths to learn a craft to complement their education, noting that the institution takes priority in teaching their students craft.
The Chairman, 2024 Health Week planning committee, Mr Gbenga Adedeji, appreciated the school management for their support, adding that free medical outreach was given to their host community.
“The Health Week started on Monday 27th May, 2024 with medical outreach. It was an exciting moment when our students teamed up and went to Moro town to sensitise the residents on their health wellness.
“It has been a great week and I can only thank the school management and staff for the opportunity to lead the committee for this year. The event has added more value to our students,” he added.
