THE Executive Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Hon Gbenga Edema on Tuesday, assured that the neglect in the oil producing area in state would be a thing of the past.
Edema who stated this in Akure, Ondo state capital said the present administration in the state will give priority to infrastructural development and education in the area
He described education as a tool for national development and said “we are focussing on education because we have deficiency in education in our area and we have the highest incident of drop out in the state.”
Edema however assured that the commission would be ready to pay all outstanding bursary allowances of the students from the area to encourage the students.
He also assured that the commission would continue to do all its responsibilities as provided by the laws establishing it, adding
that all the Local Government Areas in the state will benefit from the commission.Edema affirmed the resolve of the present administration in the state to open up the state, saying the oil producing areas in the state will soon be opened up to international oil companies and expressed the state readiness to support the federal government in the establishment of modular refinery in the state.
He disclosed that the state government will always be ready to key into the federal government’s initiative on the establishment of modular refineries across the state.
Edema said “if modular refinery is in place it will prevent oil bunkering which is now rampart in many parts of the country. It is a way of improving the economy of the country and ensuring availability of petroleum products in all parts of the country.”
According to him, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ondo State government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on the construction of road linking Lagos to Igbokoda will further boast the economy of the state.
Edema who expressed his readiness to serve the state with all commitments, informed that the resources accrued to the OSOPADEC will be used for the development of the state, especially the two Local
Government Areas of Ese-Odo and Ilaje which are the only Oil producing council areas in the state.
He solicited for the support of the people of Ondo South senatorial district for the smooth operations of the commission, just as he said that the activities of the Niger/Delta militants will be reduced to its lowest ebb in the state.
