One dead, 19 abscond as NYSC members complete service year in Delta, Kano

KANO State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Alhaji Baba Ladan, said a total of 2,405 corps members have completed the mandatory one-year service.

He also disclosed that one corps member, Sani Kayode Mustapha, who served at the College of Legal Studies in Kano, lost his life.

This was just as the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, assured the NYSC management that the Kano State government would continue to be committed to welfare provisions and security of corps members in the state.

Ladan, who made the assertion at the Passing Out Parade  (POP) of the Batch “A” Stream 1 corps members, also stated that out of 2,405 corps members, seven of them absconded, while  17 were being disciplined for various offences ranging from extension of service between two weeks to five months and outright repeat of service.

In another development, 19 corps members of the 2017 Batch A, Stream One, who absconded in Delta State are to repeat their service whenever they present themselves.

Similarly, 16 of them will have their service year extended from periods ranging from two weeks to four months.

A total of 2,838 corps members were discharged from national service in Delta State.

According to the state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mr Ayodele Omotade, on the occasion of the passing out ceremony of the corps members in Asaba, two corpers, who distinguished themselves in the course of the national service were recognised and rewarded.

While one received the chairman’s award, the second person would be conferred with the state honours award at a later date during the Stream Two passing out ceremony.
