Men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, have arrested four suspects, including a couple, Adewale Olokungboye and Ngozi Kenneth, who were found to be engaged in a series of burglaries in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The couple were apprehended with goods and items worth millions of Naira and foodstuffs after breaking into a canteen in the middle of the night in Akure.
The Amotekun operation led to the recovery of stolen goods with an estimated value of a million naira, while two other suspects were apprehended after an investigation.
Speaking during the parade, the State Amotekun Commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the suspects were apprehended in Akure by men of the Amotekun
Adeleye described the couple as serial burglars, stating that they were captured following credible information provided by residents in the area.
According to Amotekun’s boss, the duo had operated more than five different shops and houses, while they usually approached court for a false affidavit to lay claims on the stolen goods.
The Amotekun Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, said, “Immediately after stealing the goods, they will go and do a fake affidavit as the owners of any property they steal.
Speaking during their parade, Olokungboye claimed not to be involved in the crime, saying he has been living in Ado Ekiti but only visited to see his children and their mother.
He explained that he did not meet his wife, Ngozi, at home and never had prior knowledge of his wife’s involvement in the crime until Amotekun operatives traced the stolen goods to their house.
Adewale, who admitted being apprehended before now for a similar offence, said he decided to relocate and work in Ado-Ekiti as a tricycle operator.
He said, “My wife was the one that went to break into the shop. She went with Seun and Daniel in the middle of the night. It was raining heavily that night.
“It was when I woke up that I saw the goods that they went to steal. I did not bother to ask her where she got the goods from because I had to rush to work that morning.
“It was when Amotekun officers came to the house to arrest them that I realised that they went to steal the goods. She is the one who perfected the affidavit to make the goods legally hers.
“My wife and I have been arrested in the past by SWAT in the state for stealing. But after that, I left her in Akure and went to Ado-Ekiti. This time around, I decided to come and check on the twins she had for me; that was how I was arrested with her.”
On her part, Ngozi stated that she did not participate in the break-in but that she only waited to receive the goods.
She said, “I was not the one who broke into the shop. I only went with Daniel. After breaking into the shop,
“Daniel came to meet me with the goods where I was waiting for him. Yes, I used to do affidavits for some of the goods.
The Amotekun Commander, however, said they are cooperating with the corps in providing additional information related to their criminal activities and said the couple would be arraigned in court once the investigation is completed.
