I must begin by appreciating Senator Dino Melaye for being outspoken and always airing his views on issues that affect the public negatively. Let me also condemn in totality, the recent attempt on his life.
However, beyond his constant claim of being a voice of the voiceless and a mouthpiece of the common people, he should strive to elevate his constituency through his services to them.
When the late Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, was alive, he did not tell anybody that he was a voice to the voiceless but people regarded him as one because of his humanitarian services.
When the late Dele Giwa was alive, he did not tell anyone that he was a mouthpiece of the people but people regarded him as one because of his selfless services to the people.
Again, the late Professor Chinua Achebe never told anybody that he was the mouthpiece of the society but the society regarded him as one.
I like Senator Melaye being outspoken but he should also be executing developmental projects that can benefit the lives of the people that he is representing at the National Assembly.
Senator Melaye should use his constituency development allowances to build hospitals, schools, roads, and so on.
If that is done, he doesn’t need to tell anybody that he is a man of the people. The people would be saying that on his behalf.
